Review: Noodle Planet

It's only fitting to begin this blog with the pad see ew that started my pad see ew addiction. Noodle Planet, in Westwood, is, without doubt, my favorite pad see ew producer. Although  the restaurant itself is nice enough, complete with booths, bright colors and a hanging planetary diorama, my roommates and I will often order in and pick up because it's just quicker and can then be enjoyed in the comfort of our apartment.

However, the occasional dine-in is still enjoyable as service is very quick and it is a lively environment filled with the usual student fair.

When ordering to go, your pad see ew will be handed over in a nondescript styrofoam container, but what's inside, is anything but nondescript. Even before opening, the aroma alone is enough to make my pants tighten. Thick flavors of soy sauce, seasoned beef and stir fried Chinese broccoli waft quickly to the nostrils.

Although a certain amount of oiliness is to be expected with all Asian dishes, NP's pad see ew is not excessive in its grease factor.

Demonstrating its authenticity, Chinese broccoli is always a plus, the beef is delicately stir fried and rarely tough and the egg is skillfully tossed in to be present, but not obtrusive. However, it is the noodles that are the most impressive.

NP's classic, wide, flat noodles maintain their integrity, cooked flawlessly. They are visibly browned, but are wet enough to slightly stick together, although not overcooked into mush, a delicate balance rarely achieved to such perfection.

As an added bonus, plates and boxes are consistently filled to the brim making this, perhaps, the best way to spend $8.93 ever. (Tip not included) One plate is easily two meals.

  1. Thank you for making my mouth water at approximately 12:42am. Noodle Planet is officially on my "places to go" list now - even if it doesn't have a cool name like Cholada.
